4 tips to organise your Ramadan cooking

Ramadan is such a perfect opportunity to get your home, especially the kitchen, organised, because tackling a month’s worth of freshly prepared meals might be a herculean task.

Although preparing meals during Ramadan might seem similar to tackling a usual month’s meals, it is very important to set time aside and get it planned before the fasting begins.

Putting things in order is very important because that does not only help get the two meals of the day – suhoor (before sunrise) and iftar (after sunset) – to the table easier and faster, it also helps housewives do other important parts of worship without hiccups.

Here are some steps to help with the planning:

–   Plan the planning. The best types of activities that yield fruitful results are ones that are planned. In the month of Ramadan it is advised to be organised, clean and efficient, which involves being as prepared as we can.

– Create the Ramadan menu. Housewives can plan the menu of the month and ensure meals are as healthy and seasonal as possible. Draw up a timetable with names of meals to be prepared of the suhoor (pre-dawn meal), iftar (breaking of the fast meal), soup and meal items for each day of Ramadan, all the way up to ‘Eid day (celebration at end the month of fasting – Sallah day). You can either stick it on the Ramadan calendar or on the kitchen fridge for easy accessibility.

–   Make a grocery list for Ramadan food shopping. This includes things you may already have on hand just so that you are sure to get everything you need. List the items you need at the market for a reminder. You wouldn’t want to start preparing meals without some major or even minor ingredients.

–  Organise your kitchen- Next is the part that few people want to do – clean and organise the kitchen. In the process of cleaning, you’ll be making room in your fridge and freezer for the food items included in your Ramadan Cooking Plan.

A clean kitchen makes things go a lot smoother and makes you feel a lot happier to be in it.
