Primary and secondary schools in Anambra State yesterday recorded low attendance following the monkey pox disease scare that caused panic after the commencement of a military medical outreach by the Nigerian Arny.
Our correspondent who monitored the development across the capital city of Awka observed that while some private schools did not open for classes, those that did witnessed poor attendance as most of the parents decided to keep their wards at home.
Even with the assurances by the government that there was no cause for alarm, most schools remained under lock and key.
A parent, Mrs Theresa Nwuneke, said she decided to keep her children at home after her experience the previous day where she was torn between rushing to Igwebuike Secondary School where her first son was schooling and Amamife Primary School where she had two younger children.”
A pupil, Praise Ekene, wondered how he would miss his test simply because of the fake rumor.
