The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Katsina State has threatened to picket Dana Steel Limited for violations of workers’ rights and unfavourable working conditions.

Speaking during a solidarity visit to the premises of the company in Katsina, the state chairman NLC, Comrade Tanimu Saulawa, expressed the union’s concerns over the deplorable working conditions the workers are subjected to.

According to him, the union has observed that staff have been barred from setting up union, workers casualised in addition to poor remuneration.

He said barring unions in an organisation was against the International Labour Organisation (ILO) charter which the NLC is a member.

Responding on behalf of the management, a manager, Sanjeeb Dash said the company has just resumed production two weeks ago but assured that before the next visit of NLC, it would have met all the conditions for its staff welfare.
