Shiites protests: your security is assured, army tells FCT residents

The residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been assured of their safety as they go about their normal businesses activities even as reports have been making rounds on the social media of another round of protest by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN).

 
The Commandant of the Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Umar Musa who gave the assurance during the closing ceremony of the Guards Brigade Nigerian Corporal below  stressed that that the activities of the Shiites will not affect the security of the FCT.
 
Brigadier General Umar Musa who noted that the protests of the Shiites have increased in the FCT in recent times said that the Nigerian Army was closely monitoring their activities and would be on hands to curtail any crisis if the Nigerian Police calls for assistance.
 
“I want to assure the public that the Nigerian Army and Guards Brigade in particular have been monitoring the situation closely and as it is now, most of the activities of the IMN is within the ambit of the Nigerian Police, who have the constitutional role of protecting lives and property of the public”
“it has not yet reached the time when the military will be involved, we are monitoring and on stand by at short notice if the situation goes out of hand or cannot be controlled by the Nigerian police. Their activities will not affect the security of the FCT”.
 
Speaking on the competition, the commandant noted that the exercise which is aimed at improving the leadership qualities, discipline and developing the level of initiative of junior non commissioned officers was successful.
 
Brigadier General added that the men competed in weapon handling, obstacle crossing, drill and map reading to ascertain their readiness to handle security challenge.
 
He added that the level of enthusiasm shown by the officers during the competition proved that they are quite capable of protecting the president, his family and all citizens of the nations.
 
Five battalion took part in the completion with 177 Guards Brigade  taking the first position and wining several of the exercise.
