A civil society organization, YouthHubAfrica, has commended Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for assenting to the Child Welfare and Protection law 15 years after the passage of the Child Rights Bill by the National Assembly, and charged the government to ensure its smooth implementation.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, had told journalists that the governor had signed the law after it was passed by the State House of Assembly and had also directed that it be gazetted.
The Executive Director of YouthHub Africa, Rotimi Olawale, described the signing of the document as a major step, saying Kaduna had become the 26th state to domesticate the bill.
He urged the government to make the institutional framework available for diligent implementation of the law.
