Commonwealth Youth Games heroine, Oghenefejiro living her dream

Nigeria’s discovery at the Games, Praise Idamadudu Oghenefejiro, who won four medals said she was happy to see her dream come true.
“By representing Nigeria at the Commonwealth Youth Games, I have been able to achieve one of my dreams. I won gold medals in 4x400m, 200m and 4x100m, while I also won a bronze in 400m,” she said.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s contingent to the fifth Commonwealth Youth Games, which ended in Samoa arrived in Abuja Monday after a brilliant performance which saw the team finish seventh on the medals table.
Team Nigeria was able to finish ahead of 55 other countries who featured in the games having amassed six gold, two silver and three bronze medals. A total of 62 nations took part in the events.
On hand to receive the contingent at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was the Director, Grassroots Sports Development, National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr Ademola Are who lauded their heroics.
“We are proud of you for making Nigeria proud. You have displayed the ‘never-give-up’ Nigerian spirit that saw you dominate, despite being represented by only 13 of you, Nigerian flag flew high at the games,” Are said.
The leader of Team Nigeria to the Games, Deputy Director of Grassroots Sports, Shuwa Umar Talba explained that the athletes were determined and disciplined throughout the Games.
“We have seen a crop of athletes that are good and we would ensure that we keep a tab on them, prepare them ahead of the Commonwealth Games which holds in two years,” he said.
