The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has promised to ensure that government maintains a data of every Nigerian as well as account for every citizen missing or in captivity by insurgency group BokoHaram.
Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof Bem Angwe disclosed this when the #BringBackOurGirls group visited the commission to request for missing persons register in Nigeria.
Prof Angwe said offices of the commission across the country would be directed to open registers to all Nigerians in order to document their missing relatives suspected to have been abducted.
On the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Angwe regretted that people who are not displaced take advantage of the situation by mixing up to seek government’s attention.
Angwe said the commission will take action to place a demarcation line to assist the genuine IDPs.
Chairperson, #BringBackOurGirls strategic team, Aisha Yesufu said opening the missing person’s register in Nigeria cannot not be overemphasized because there are people abducted which the state do not even know about.
