Some motorists were feared killed yesterday when container loaded with goods fell off the bridge at Ojuelegba area of Surulere, Lagos. The casualty figure was yet to be ascertained at press time. No fewer than two vehicles, including their occupants were trapped under the 20-foot container at about 3.45 pm when the truck carrying it tried to ascend the bridge. At press time yesterday, rescue workers had barricaded the scene, preventing access. A witness told our correspondent that the container was not properly latched to the truck, and easily fell off.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) South West spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the container fell on two vehicles. According to him, one person who was trapped in a white car escaped while another in the second car was rescued and rushed to hospital, but no death was recorded.
