A Lagos-based businessman who was kidnapped two weeks ago along 72 Road in FESTAC Town has been released.
James Uduji, the chairman of Comestar Company Limited, was freed yesterday morning.
Daily Trust gathered that the kidnappers had demanded $1m (about N250m) ransom for his release. His family was said to have paid the kidnappers about N100 million, but they insisted on collecting the balance of N150 million before setting him free. It could not be confirmed if the balance was paid.
Armed hoodlums had ambushed Uduji at the 72 Road junction by 7th Avenue around 5pm and seized him.Lagos State police command spokesman, Joseph Offor, confirmed Uduji’s release yesterday.
He however said the police played no role in it as they were only informed by the family that the man had regained freedom, and had no knowledge of any ransom payment.
