The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Niger State yesterday commenced training of 25 beneficiaries in commercial farming.
The beneficiaries are undergoing training in poultry, fishery and market gardening.
State Coordinator of NDE, Engineer Abdullahi Mohammad, said the organization had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) for the disbursement of loans to beneficiaries after the training.
Speaking during the one day orientation course on Commercial Farming Training Project under Rural Employment Promotion (REP) Department of NDE, Mohammad said the training would last for one year under very close supervision and monitoring so as to authenticate the seriousness of participants.
He said prospective beneficiaries would form themselves into cooperatives to be able to access loan from the bank.
Represented by the HOD Information and Communication, Mrs Helen Abu, he commended FCMB for agreeing to give the beneficiaries loans at nine per cent single digit interest rate and the state Ministry of Lives Stock and Fisheries for its collaboration. He noted that agriculture is a very lucrative business in contemporary society where gains are assured within a short period of time.
