Absence of a cabinet is not an impediment to the smooth running of government in Plateau State, the government said.
“There are no government resolutions that have been hampered by the absence of the State Executive Council (SEC),” Emmaule Nanle, spokesman of Governor Simon Lolong told Daily Trust in Jos, yesterday.
“That the appointment has not been made has not affected the running of government. The restructuring recommended by the transition committee is being implemented without hitches.”
Nanle said the administration was utilising permanent secretaries to restructure government, adding that the top civil servants have filled the void occasioned by absence of state executive council members.
Six months into the life of the Lalong administration, the spokesman cited “financial consideration” as a reason for not appointing commissioners, explaining that the government was careful not to delve into the appointment at a time when its purse was lean.
Governor Lalong has had to swiftly react to comments made by the opposition PDP, that his delay in appointing a cabinet was a sign of lack of focus.
Mike Dachom, the organising secretary of the PDP in the state, described the non-appointment of commissioners as a sign of lack of focused leadership by the APC administration.
