The Kano State Censorship Board has banned solo dance for allegedly promoting nudity among underage girls, the Executive Secretary of the board, Mallam Isma’ila Muhammad Na’Abba, said yesterday.
Afakallahu told Daily Trust yesterday that the ban became necessary as owners of private theatres had developed the habit of engaging young girls in the solo dance.
“The board has noticed with dismay that owners of theatres are recruiting young girls between the ages of 13-15 into solo dance. These girls are being trained how to dance virtually naked which is against the teachings of Islam and even the Hausa culture,” he said.
The executive secretary said all theatres in the 44 local governments had been suspended from operating pending the conclusion of the ongoing screening by the board.
