Hospital celebrates Ebola survivor baby delivery

There was jubilation at the First Consultant Medical Centre, Lagos, on Tuesday, following the safe delivery of Dr. Ada Igonoh, the only female doctor who survived the Ebola disease in Nigeria.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Benjamin Ohiaeri, at a press conference, said Dr. Igonoh gave birth to a baby girl at the Greater El-Monte Community Hospital, California, USA.
According to him, Dr. Igonoh travelled to California when the pregnancy was 28-weeks-old for monitoring.
Ohiaeri, who described Igonoh’s case as special, said it is usually very difficult to get pregnant after surviving Ebola.
He said the baby girl, weighing nine pounds and a little above four kilos has been certified Ebola free.
Ohiaeri said the return of the mother and baby will be determined by further medical checks
Ohiaeri said, “Everything about Dr. Ada has been divine; because she survived the deadly virus and started taking care of other colleagues. She also got pregnant and has now given birth.”
He said research is ongoing to explain why it is difficult for Ebola survivors to conceive.
