The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has said there is nothing new in his son-in-law, Mazi Uche Nwosu, succeeding him as governor, saying people are just making unnecessary fuse about the endorsement he made.

Gov. Okorocha said history abounded with siblings holding political offices at the same time and children succeeding their fathers in the same positions.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Okorocha said his choice of Nwosu to succeed him was not based on any filial relationship of son-in-law to father-in-law, but on the fact that he (Nwosu) was eminently qualified to be the Governor of Imo State.

The governor gave the example of the United States, which he described as “the bastion of democracy” where generations of the Bush family had occupied not only the Oval Office, but governors of states.

Down home, Okorocha recalled that the Sarakis from Kwara State had occupied senate and governorship positions almost at the same time, adding that Sen. Bola Tinubu who was a governor at a time and his wife being a senator was also a succinct point to buttress his argument.
