Harmattan: Clerics donate 100 blankets, head warmers to IDPs in Kaduna

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kaduna received blankets and head warmers to protect themselves against the harmattan and other cold related diseases.
Daily Trust reports that a thick fog has enveloped the state, signifying the beginning of the harmattan season and motorists have to drive with their lights on in order to avoid road crashes.
The gesture extended by Pastor Yohanna Buru and Malam Abdulrahman Bichi, both clerics, drew a large crowd as the distribution took place in Kaduna North Local Government Area, with many street beggars, destitute and orphans collecting the items.
Pastor Buru stressed the need for Nigerians to be their brothers’ keepers by donating protective clothes to displaced persons, especially the homeless children who used to spend the night in the open, appealing to beneficiaries to use the items to protect themselves from the harsh weather.
He added: “We discovered during our visit to some of the refugees at their various places that some women gave birth to new babies and lack food to eat, while some of their children are facing many health challenges.
“We want to call on the government to, as a matter of urgency, come to the rescue of these people by providing for them the basic amenities they need to survive, especially during this season were the eye diseases is common as a result of the extreme dry dusty wind blowing especially in the northern part of the country.”
