Herdsmen attacked Polalido-Kandilan village in Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State, killing one person and injuring four others.
Head of the area, Mallam Ajiya Magaji Buba, said the attackers burnt 40 houses, destroyed economic trees and farm produce. He said over 200 people were displaced due to the incident.
Buba said corpses of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary of General Hospital, Billiri.
He said the herders entered the village with over 1,000 cows, and that when a farmer saw them in his farm, he confronted them.
“When he went to talk to them, they beat him to death,” the village head said.
He said the herdsmen later attacked the village and injured four others.
He said they faced this sort of attack every year.
Buba said they reported the matter to chief of Tangale, who sent local security men to assist them.
He said they used to have security outpost in the area, but that since the election, they had not seen the operatives.
He called on the Gombe State government to deploy security men to the area.
