Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has threatened to deal with local government chairman found to have recruited staff despite owing salaries.
Speaking during a meeting with the chairmen in his office yesterday, Ahmed said it had come to his notice that some local government chairmen had resorted to employing additional staff ýwhile struggling to pay their existing employees.
He noted that the recruitment was at variance with government’s effort to resolve the salary crisis in the local governments.
He said any chairman found to have indulged in the unapproved recruitment would be sanctioned.
Consequently, a four-man committee headed by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Yusuf Babtunde AbdulWahab, has been set up to investigate the recent recruitments.
According to a statement from the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communication, Dr. Muideen Akorede, the government has also instructed that anyone who has benefitted from any such employment in the past six months should disregard it as they are unauthorised and would be reversed.
