Unity schools suspend strike

This was contained in a communiqué by the federal ministry of education jointly signed by Dr. M. B. Umar, director human resources management, Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal, secretary-general of ASCSN and Dr. Clement Illoh, permanent secretary ministry of labour and productivity
The communiqué said the decision to call of the strike was reached at a meeting between the management of the federal ministry of education and the national leadership of ASCSN held in Abuja on Wednesday. It stated that the payment of first batch of 2007 to 2010 promotion arrears started yesterday with the sum of N527.64 million, while the N1.7 billion unpaid arrears of promotion and other allowances would be paid to the affected staff in batches.
The N1.7 billion arrears comprises the second batch of 2007-2010 promotion arrears; third batch of 2007 to 2010 promotion arrears; supplementary promotion arrears for 2011; promotion arrears for 2012; re-instatement allowance and outstanding salary for newly employed staff.
