Kebbi Flood: Wazirin Gwandu to head 25-man committee

The committee, headed by Wazirin Gwandu, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, will also determine the number of people affected by the recent flood disaster in the state.
Dakingari, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ibrahim K. Aliyu, weekend in Birnin Kebbi, assured victims in Birnin Kebbi, Argungu and Dandi local government areas of government’s assistance.
He said this year’s flood was the worst witnessed in the areas in the past forty years.
Alhaji Bala Achali, Director of Security in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government is to serve as the secretary of the committee.
The state designated Nagari College and Abdullahi Fodiyo Centre as temporary re-settlement camps for the displaced persons.
Meanwhile, a team from NEMA Zonal Office in Sokoto, led by Sadiq Nuhu, has arrived Birnin Kebbi to assess the damage caused by the flood.
Receiving the members of the team in his office, the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Nuraddeen Usman Kangiwa commended the federal government and the National Emergency Management Agency for their quick response to the plight of the displaced persons.
The heavy downpour began early morning on Saturday 16/8/2014 and lasted for more than 12 hours and led to the collapse of many houses rendered many homeless.
Areas mostly affected in Birnin Kebbi were Fati Lami section of Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital, Rafin Atiku, Badariyya, Aliero Quarters, Shiyar Sarakuna, Bayan kara, Tudun wada and Gesse phase one.
