Emir donates trees to Zamfara communities

Speaking at the launching of the tree planting campaign in Gutsura village, the emir said the area happened to fall within the region bedvilled by intense desertification.
“Firewood dealers should not cut or fell down living trees as this causes serious environmental hazards such as erosion and desert encroachment with attendant consequences of acute shortage of rainfall needed for proper growth of crops,” he warned.
He maintained that whoever wants to plant trees should go to the emirate and collect some, adding that in the fight against environmental degradation communities must be proactive.
“Each family member has the responsibility of nurturing the trees and we will be back in three months time to see how serious communities have become in taking care of these trees because it is one thing to plant trees and it is another to nurture them,” he said.
He called all stakeholders to come and assist in restoring the quality of the environment that is fast eroding largely because of man’s activities, posing threat to existence of human beings and other living creatures.
