Professor Alkali, a member of the national conference and former vice chancellor of the University of Maiduguri died on Saturday at the age of 68.
A statement by Shettima’s Special Adviser on Communications, Isa Umar Gusau, said the governor was shocked by the death.
“His demise came at a time his extra-ordinary knowledge and depth of wisdom were much needed, especially with the security challenge facing Borno State,” he said.
He said the late professor contributed in many ways to address the situation in the state “through thoroughly researched and well articulated positions at several publications. The governor feels the pains of Professor Alkali’s death, not just for his works but also from a personal point of view. As a Muslim, I believe that death can come at anytime but this is one death too many for me”.
