AfDB VP to speak at CEO Forum on children girls’ rights

The event with the theme ‘Girl Dividend: Why Should CEOs Care’ is scheduled to hold on October 8 in Lagos.
Ms Toyin Olakanpo, President of Foundation for CSR and Children’s Right, said in a statement that Ms Akintomide was their first choice given the African Development Bank’s  four year Gender Strategy launched this year which focuses on Investing in Gender Equality for Africa’ s Transformation.
The topic of investing in gender equality and the rights of the girl child reached the nation’s consciousness with the horrific abduction of the Chibok girls in April earlier this year. The Foundation for CSR & Children’s Rights says it is working to engage private sectors to support Children’s Rights through their CSR Targets with clear strategy that reflects the UN Children’s Rights & Business Principles.
Ms Olakanpo went on to say that it is important that the private sector adopts strategic CSR policies that will uplift the rights of girls in Nigeria and African generally as opposed to donating large amounts of money to international NGOs. She said that though much has been done for the advancement of women, the society must not forget that a woman is a girl first, before she becomes a woman. “And for this reason we must protect and nourish the girl child to ensuring that they receive an education.”
