Paucity of funds is retarding research activities, board chairman, Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, Wataregh Paul Unongo, has said.
He made the remark at a meeting with the management of the council in Abuja. He said lack of adequate funding from the government, individuals and corporate organizations has led to retardation in research and development in Nigeria.
“A huge amount of money is required to carry out purposeful research. There is need to speak straight to the government to set aside adequate funding for research and a good package for researchers,” he said.
He said a department of statistics should be established by the council to collect and compile data on the Nigerian education system, analyze the data and interpret the result to stakeholders.
