Speaking at the inauguration of some of the facilities at Charanci local government, the Executive Director of SEPA Alhaji Lawal Yunusa said open defecation practice, particularly during markets days, was a threat to the health of the people.
This ugly practice, he said, could contaminate the environment and lead to disease outbreak like cholera and typhoid fever.
He expressed hope that with the construction of toilets in such public places, the rate of open defecation would be reduced.
While urging the people of the state to make proper utilisation of the toilets and desist from open defecation, Yunusa urged the market authorities to ensure maintenance of the toilets facilities.
Meanwhile, the agency has assured of its commitment to partner with relevant organisations towards a clean environment.
Yunusa, speaking when he met with some stakeholders, noted that the state government has so far employed 2,000 street cleaners to maintain the streets.
