FG reopens Maiduguri Airport for Ex-Gov Sheriff

The Federal Government of Nigeria this afternoon reopened the Maiduguri International Airport which paved the way for  the private aircraft of former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff to land.

Sheriff has perfected plans to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Daily Trust reports that the Maiduguri Airport was abruptly closed down on 27th June, 2014, a development that forced nearly 300 Umra Pilgrims to travel by road to Kano before they were airlifted to Saudi Arabia.

The Nigerian military authorities announced that the closure of the airport was for “security reasons”.
However, the airport was reopened today and Sheriff, together with some of his loyalists landed at the facility around noon.

Dozens of soldiers were also deployed to the airport to give him cover.
