That Emab Plaza Distraction

The army, which is usually more advanced on these issues found two motorcycle or power bike riders whose hands and feet in it. According to the story, one of them was shot dead at the scene while trying to escape and the other was arrested. With luck on our sides, we would soon unravel the military truth.
Out of love and respect for our security forces, there are no gaping holes in these incredulous stories. The so-called eyewitnesses who broke social media rules to fish out their gadgets and record accidents and incidents instead of assisting victims cannot be believed. They do not wear uniforms. Soldiers are our friends though they sometimes abuse us.
Expectedly the veracity of what actually happened at EMAB would remain with the recorder of heaven whose CCTV is bound to work more accurately than those installed by the government at the common stealing price.
The fast response by the security is proof that the government is “on top of the situation.” Terrorism, our president once reminded is a global phenomenon that citizen should learn to live with. For outsiders, we are comfortably living with lesser evils without complaining.
As loyal citizens and die-hard voters of a performing government we have just enlarged the coast of the ruining party. We are living with armed robbery, ritual killing and various forms of brigandage. What a shame that the Emab Plaza blast occurred before the Commander-in-Chief could reassign the massive troops who secured votes in Ekiti. Not to forget the gallant soldiers who searched Aminu Tambuwal’s official vehicle. If the watchful ones who prevented Rotimi Amaechi from polluting the plans of the ruining party in Ekiti had deployed.
The tragedy would have been prevented if those who arrested 486 Boko Haram suspects in Abia had been rerouted to the capital city; they found one kingpin among the lot. Any doubter should be like Yusuf Siyaka and held until they have purged themselves of their treasonable act. Like Siyaka, after twelve days in solitary confinement with a hospitalized mum people usually regain their sense of patriotism if they are lucky to be alive.
Our nation needs patriots like that, who pick up their instinct from doubtful adversity. Doubters of military absolute powers have never attempted to cross the AYA junction instead of using the footbridge long before the construction of flyover. A neighbor of mine with a weak knee once did and lived to recount the ordeal from a hospital bed. Apparently, she did not attend NYSC Orientation Camp drills.
Poor Mr. President. He broke the food and security conference in Malabo and returned home like a conscionable leader. All this before he could get the AU to approve the blueprint to end all insurgencies. The blueprint was fashioned from his meeting with Francois Hollande, security conference in London and local talk shops. He will have to wait for another AU conference to get the endorsement to prevent all bombings.
Meantime, let those who cannot afford to fly out for shopping please avoid malls, government buildings (including Louis Edet House and the UN Building) and of course bus terminals. Those who cannot fly their children to foreign schools should steer clear of schools. The instruction to Borno schools that could have prevented the Chibok abductions is now of universal application until boko ceases to be haram. People who cannot worship at the Villa should avoid churches and mosques and stop these blastful distractions. Those who blow people up with things hate congregations.
Soon, we will shut down the federal secretariat as we did during the World Economic Forum, let everybody work from home until we can decide whether we are dialoguing with these mindless killers or, like bold governments “not talking to terrorists.” Heh, let nobody start using the American-Taliban hostage exchange rate here because one American is captivity is worth more than 200 village schoolgirl from a state ruined by the opposition. No non-PDP political gatherings.
The patriotic decision by the president to cut short his trip must have affected members of his entourage who would have forfeited their rights to shop until they drop. The Equatorial Guinea economy is bound to suffer from the sudden air-return, because Naija delegates would have returned with those dollars known to make London, Paris and American shop owners earn a full year profit in a few hours. It is also shameful to ask where we are with the insurgency. Are we dialoguing, swapping hostages or pretending that not enough people have died. Or, as usual, are we ignoring the distractions in the hope that it will soon – go away?
