Kashimbilla Dam will be ready before December 2014 deadline

The multipurpose buffer dam, when completed, is expected to provide irrigation for 2,000 hectares of land and generate 40 megawatts of hydro power.
The construction of the dam which started in 2010 was sequel to a UN report that the collapse of Lake Nyos in Cameroon would spill poisonous gas and cause flooding that would affect Nigerian states negatively.
The director said that the hydro-power components were being installed as the turbines were almost completed.
“Kashimbilla is about 90 per cent completed now.
“All the four turbines are almost completed and I am reliably informed that the award of contract for the evacuation of the power has been approved by Mr President,’’ Ikpeawujo said.
Commenting on the plan to construct the Dasin Hausa Dam in Adamawa, Ikpeawujo said the project was at the procurement stage, adding that the ministry was still shopping for consultants.
He stated that the consultants would review the design of the dam and provide adequate feasibility study for the project.
Nigeria proposed to construct the dam in 1978, before Cameroon constructed the Lagdo dam in 1982.
The Dasin Hausa dam, which would be located a few kms upstream of the Benue River, is expected to curtail any water released from Lagdo Dam. (NAN)
