Community petitions Dana Mills over pollution

Daily Trust gathered that the community and other industries operating in the Industrial layout have been complaining over the emissions caused by the mill during its operations.
Some of the petitions made available to Daily Trust alleged that the unhealthy smoke being emitted by the plant is toxic to the environment and the neighbouring community thereby putting their lives in great danger.
“Those of us living within the vicinity are currently in great danger and obviously will not continue to be subjected to living within such hazardous situation,” it stated.
The petitioners are Ni’ima Rainbow Water, WEMCO Aluminium Company and Kush Nur Nigeria Limited.
When our reporter visited the state NESREA office, the state coordinator Toyin Obagiri confirmed the meeting, saying it is one of the basic processes of intervening to bring the warring parties under one table for amicable solutions.
The Assistant General Manager Dana Steel Rolling Mills, Isah Ane, said the plant is doing all it can to ensure that it operates according to laid down rules and regulation as efforts are being intensified to curtail hazardous emission.
He assured that the company will be adequately represented at the meeting with a view to ensuring that it allays fears of the community and the other companies operating within the vicinity.
