Aviation stakeholders task FG on safety

Rising from a one-day aviation safety seminar organised by Aeroconsult limited, the aviation stakeholders urged government to focus its attention on making Nigeria’s airspace safe.
A communiqué issued at the end of the seminar identified safety as the cornerstone of aviation operations, saying: “Improvement in aviation safety is fundamental to ensuring air transport continues to play a major role in driving sustainable economic and social development.
“Nigeria should remain focused on establishing, updating and addressing safety priorities and also encourage expansion of our air transport sector.”
It said the major challenge facing the airline industry, especially the local operators, included ageing aircraft, cost of aircraft leasing/financing, cost of insurance and, most importantly, the high cost of Jet-A1 that has remained unabated for many years.
The communiqué recognised air travel as the fastest and safest means of transportation, saying that the confidence of the flying public can be enhanced by a safety culture.
