Kano purchases N2.9bn ductile pipes to boost water supply

The Commissioner for Water Resources in the state, Dr Yunusa Dangwani, disclosed this while taking delivery of the consignment in Kano.
Dangwani said the state government had also earmarked N200 million for the laying of pipes from Tamburawa Water Works through Eastern Bye-pass to Hadeja Road in the metropolis.
“This is the last consignment of the pipes, which will be laid soon to improve water supply in the city. When the project is completed, the issue of water scarcity will be history in the South-Eastern parts of the city, especially in Naibawa, Unguwa-Uku, Hotoro, Yan’kaba, Tudun Dakata and Kawaji.’’
Dangwani said the state government would also lay 600mm ductile pipes from Watari to Tsanyawa town, a distance of about 34 kilometres.
According to him, the state government is augmenting water supply in the affected areas from Joda Water Treatment Plant as the pipes had already been laid while testing will soon commence.
“By the time this project is completed, 80 per cent or more of the population in Kano and its environs will get potable water.’’
Dangwani urged people to support the state government by ensuring prompt payment of  water bills for effective service delivery. (NAN)
