Insistence on quality, key to my success –Boutique owner

Within a space of two weeks, his boutique was robbed twice. The ugly incident raised serious concerns among his customers and sympathisers.
Aso Chronicle paid a visit to the market and spoke to Emma Ogbonna, the owner of the boutique, and his neighbours. While some people attribute the robbery cases to the poor visual sight of the shop owner, Emma had a contrary opinion.
Some people argue that the robbers might have concluded that the fair-skinned young man does not see clearly and, thus, felt they could take advantage of his impaired vision to rob him.
But Emma told Aso Chronicle that in the fifteen years he has been in the business, he witnessed several robbery attacks in the market, with some of the robbers escaping without getting caught.
He attributes the ugly trend to the economic hardship ravaging the country, greed and laziness of some Nigerians, particularly youths.
He said: “Robbery in the market is a daily affair. You cannot divorce robbery from business. To me, there is high level of poverty and greed in the country. People are hungry and because they don’t want to work, they chose to steal in order to eat.”
The Imo State-born businessman said on all the occasions he was robbed, the robbers got apprehended and never escaped with his goods.
He hinted that his insistence on selling quality materials ever since he started his business, and his dedication to work, have contributed greatly to the steady increase in the number of clients who daily patronise his shop.
He challenged Nigerians, especially the youths, to eschew laziness and idleness, and engage themselves in any meaningful job, no matter how menial it may be. He urged them to give their vocations the seriousness and commitment they deserve.
He said other things that help him, apart from dedication and commitment, are his vigilance and alertness while transacting his business. He said he is always alert anytime a customer walks into his shop.
“I’m not easily carried away by the number of items one is buying. Although my shop is divided into two sections, the way the clothes are arranged also makes it easier for me to monitor any suspicious movement.”
He said that he is now more security conscious and takes proactive measures to forestall robbery in his shop.
“Once beaten, twice shy,” he said.
