Borno ex-commissioner denies link with Boko Haram

Dirkwa also denied reports he was heckled at the weekend by the people of Hawul Local Government Area. The report added that the incident took place when he visited one of the displaced persons camp in Biu town in southern part of the state to present relief materials on behalf of the state government.
He said he was yet to return from Saudi, where he participated in this year’s Hajj, wondering how that incident happened.
Speaking through the Caretaker Chairman of Hawul Local Government Area, Dr. Andrew Usman Malgwi, the former commissioner said the story which was carried by some newspapers and online media was meant to destroy his reputation.
In the report, it was said that thugs loyal to Dirkwa worked together with Boko Haram insurgents and  attacked Shaffa town where they killed eight  people and burnt many churches.
Dirkwa expressed shock over the allegations levelled against him and the District Head of Shaffa community, Alhaji Mohammed Dautiya, naming them as sponsors/collaborators of Boko Haram sect.
He said: “Also, the allegation that the former commissioner  connived and squandered N50 million approved by Governor Kashim Shettima for the  procurement of relief materials for Christians who fled their homes around Shadda and are camped at the displaced persons’ camps in Biu is false. There was no time Governor Shettima approved or released the said amount to carter for victims of Boko Haram in the council. In fact, we are still assessing the  damage/destruction meted to the people of Shaffa and other communities before submitting the report to the state government for proper attention or assistance.”
