Daily Trust reports that distributions of the seedlings are part of measures adopted by government to prevent desert encroachment in the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Forestry, Alhaji Abdulwahab Sani-Store, said that the efforts would also restore improve soil fertility and reduce the effects of climate change.
According to him, the administration has established 40 hectares of indigenous tree plantation, 300 hectares of industrial plantation and, 140 hectares of woodlot plantations aimed at addressing desertification across the state.
He said to safeguard the plantations, government has provided motorcycles to forests guards to prevent people from felling of trees in addition to 824 role of fencing wire for the establishment of private woodlot in an effort involving the private sector.
Daily Trust recalls that the government has embarked on the construction of 12 kilometres shelter belt cutting across several border local government areas as part of the Great Green Wall project.
