Speaking at the meeting yesterday in Abuja, Mrs Rabi Jimeta, Permanent secretary Ministry of Environment noted that the discussion was aimed at harmonising and streamlining various projects undertaken in the country to fit into the GEF 6 year cycle.
She said that with assistance from GEF, Nigeria was able to execute full, medium and small size projects in almost all states of the federation to enhance the livelihood for poverty alleviation, achievement of national priorities and objectives as well as fast tracking national development plans.
The Permanent Secretary who was represented by Mr Yomi Ladapo, Director Research, Planning and Statistics in the ministry said that the need for synergy was very important hence the decision to bring various stakeholders together to brainstorm on effective ways of managing the environment.
Earlier, Lawal Gumel, Deputy Director in the ministry said the meeting was to evaluate the progress of GEF activities in Nigeria and articulate projects and programme proposals for onward forwarding to GEF secretariat in Washington D.C.
