Ministry commences survey on water supply, sanitation

Mrs Sarah Reng Ochekpe said at the flag-off of the survey in Abuja that it was yet another milestone that government was going to use in enhancing the delivery of qualitative water services to Nigerians.
“The objective of the survey include having an up to date information system on all public water supply and sanitation facilities and ascertain the percentage of Nigerians that have access to improved sources of water and adequate sanitation nationwide,” she said.
According to her, the survey was important to the country as it would enable government take stock of achievements so far made under the MDGs target for water and sanitation, adding that “it will also afford us the opportunity to lay a solid foundation for the Sustainable Development Goals that will follow the MDGs.”
Ochekpe noted that the last survey carried out by the ministry on water supply and sanitation was in 2006 and that the result of that survey was used by government to identify locations and operational status of water and sanitation facilities nationwide.
