2015: INEC assures of enhanced security for corps members

Speaking in Abuja when he led some commissioners of INEC in a courtesy visit to the Director General of the NYSC, Jega said he was working hard to improve on its security network to avoid the repeat of 2011 incidents where many corps members were killed during elections.
According to him, the MOU between the INEC and NYSC was being reviewed to strengthen it.
Jega condemned the killing of corps members during the 2011 elections violence. He also rejected call for the scrapping of the scheme saying the commission was committed to protect the corps members during the 2015 general elections.
Director General of the NYSC Johnson Olawumi assured the INEC boss of the scheme’s readiness to educate and sensitize the public on the roles of NYSC in the electoral process.
He also pledged total commitment and support to the existing memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two agencies.
