The Kano State House of Assembly has fined Globacom N15m for failure to pay the state government N47m tax.
Chairman of the House ad-hoc Committee on Outstanding Taxes and Liabilties by GSM Service Providers, Alhaji Bello Butu-Butu made the disclosure while presenting the committee’s report to the house.
Butu-Butu explained that the committee had discovered that the globacom service provider owed Kano state government N47m tax.
He explained that the company had not pay tax to Kano state government for three years.
He said, "In the course of our investigation, we have discovered that the globacom has a total of 145 masts across the state as against 175 masts as claimed by the state government."
He, however, said the committee had written a letter to state government resquesting it to reduce the outstanding tax hanging oj the company to enable it offset the bill.
The house has adopted the report and called on the state government to take neccessary action against any tax defaulters in the state.
The house also called on the State Government to direct all revenue generation agencies in the state to be proactive in discharging their duties.
