No reason was given for the sack, which was announced just before the commencement of yesterday’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa.
In his place, President Jonathan appointed Dr Tamuno Wenike Danagogo from Rivers State as the new sports minister and Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Born on September 22, 1970, the new sports minister hails from Abonnema, in Akuku Toru local Government area of Rivers State. He attended St. Joseph State School, Abonnema where he obtained his First School leaving certificate in 1981.
He proceeded to Nyemoni Grammar School, Abonnema where he also obtained his West Africa School Certificate in 1986. He got admission into Rivers State University of Science and Technology and graduated with LL.B in Law in 1990 and proceeded to the Nigeria Law School in 1991. In 1997, he obtained a master’s degree in Law at the same university. In 2005, he proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained his Doctor of Philosophy, PhD in Private and Public Law with specialization in Human Rights and Disputes settlement.
Following his graduation from the Nigeria Law School in Lagos, Dr Danagogo did his National Youth Service Corps programme in Lagos where he served as a solicitor with Austin Mamedu co between 1991 and 1992. He later served as a litigations solicitor with C.V. George will and co in Port Harcourt from 1992 to 1995. And from 1995 to 2004 he served as principal partner in Alaba chambers in Port Harcourt. He came into political fore in 2004 when he was elected the Executive Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area. He held many political positions in PDP.
He was nominated as a Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs during Amaechi’s administration in November 2008 and was later moved to the Ministry of Urban Development as a Commissioner.
