Bauchi state govt donates relief materials to Dagaru village fire victims

Bauchi state government has donated relief materials to victims of fire which razed down Dagaru village of Katagum local government area of the state.


Secretary to the Bauchi State Government (SSG), Mohammed Nadada Umar and the emir of Katagum, ‎Alhaji Umar Farouq II visited the town and presented the relief materials to the victims.

Speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, said that, he was sent by Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar to sympathise with the people of the village and Katagum emirate over the fire incidence.

He described the fire incidence as unfortunate saying that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is also at hand to assess the damage caused by the fire.

He said that, after the assessment by SEMA, the government will also provide more assistance including building and roofing materials to the victims.

While speaking, the emir of Katagum Alhaji Baba Umar Farouq commended the Bauchi State government for its prompt response to alleviate the sufferings‎ of the fire victims.

He called on government to use its channels ‎of communication to inform and create awareness among people on how to handle fire especially at a time when winds are strong especially during dry season.

The emir later directed Dagaru village head and some other persons to supervise the distribution and ensure that the real victims benefited from the gesture.

On his part, the Katagum local government area caretaker committee chairman, Mohammed Hassan thanked the state government and emir of Katagum for identifying and helping the fire victims.

The relief items donated to the victims by Bauchi State government include; 300 bags of Millet, 200‎ bundles of Shadda (Brocade), 150 bundles of Wrapper and 150 Mats.

‎It could be recalled that a night cooking fire left by a woman in the village burnt down the village ‎destroying properties worth millions.

The fire which reportedly started early evening was said to have originated from one of the ‎households when a woman allegedly left some fire which was later ignited by wind and spread to other households.
