Speaking after a tour of projects in the state, chairman of the state’s NUJ council, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, said most of the projects the journalists visited would go a long way towards alleviating the sufferings of the common man, especially in the area of education, health and infrastructure. Yahaya, however, pointed out that despite Gov Dankwambo’s efforts in project execution, his administration needs a lot to do on more empowerment programmes and polices.
Projects the council executives visited included new schools and health facilities which are being upgraded and equipped, and roads under construction or rehabilitation. Comrade Yahaya especially commended the multi-billion naira Gombe Mega Park; and renovation, upgrading and construction of many primary and secondary schools as worthy and people-oriented. The Dankwambo administration is also constructing a new Press Centre for the NUJ.
While calling on the government to explore more ways of engaging the youths so as to reduce the rate of unemployment and youth restiveness in the state, the NUJ leader appealled for more support for, and cooperation with the Dankwambo administration “so that more dividends of democracy would be achieved.”
