The state commander of the NDLEA, Alhaji Idris Bello, said Olusola was standing trial at the Federal High Court, Lokoja for unlawful possession of 106.8kg of Indian hemp before the jailbreak.
Bello who disclosed this during the 2013 end of year press briefing in Lokoja said Olusola was re-arrested at Anyigba on December 19. According to him, Olusola with prison No. F/465/11 had been taken back to Koton-Karfe prisons to continue his trial while additional charges will be filed against him on resumption of the trial.
He said the command recorded a total seizure of 6,499.809 kg of illicit drugs including 6,499.549kg of Indian hemp, 609 grammes of psychotropic substances and volatile solvents weighing 200 grammes.
“23 vehicles were impounded and 225 suspects arrested in connection with the seizures. 36 of them were convicted and sentenced while 17 others are still awaiting trial. 83 bags of harvested dry cannabis sativa in a government reserved forest in Igalamela, Odolu Local Government were destroyed”, he said. He however called on the state government to assist the command with logistics and office accommodation to enhance its operational capacity, saying they are ready to counter drug trafficking in the state.
