TCN gets new CEO, as Don Priestman retires

A statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Seun Olagunju, said the replacement followed an approval for the appointment of the new Managing Director, Mr Kast by the TCN board during its 4th meeting held in Abuja last week.
Mr Kast, prior to his appointment was an advisor for the MHI contract since its inception in September 2012. The operations of TCN by Manitoba Hydro is part of government’s Power Sector Reform initiative bent on strengthening transmission services in Nigeria.
‘Kast is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Canada, and a Chartered Accountant by profession. He has worked in the power utility sector, holding executive roles in Manitoba Hydro and in Ontario Hydro and Regulatory Boards, Canada,’ the statement said.
He was recently, a member of a three-member team engaged by MHI on a two-year contract with the Kenya Light and Power Company on an Energy Sector Recovery Project to upgrade and expand the transmission and distribution system of Kenya.
Mr. Kast has equally worked under various capacities in other countries including Tanzania, Mozambique, Liberia and the Balkan States. His extensive training and practical experience acquired from working in power utilities is expected to create much impact in his new position, the statement concluded.
