Power minister, Chinedu Nebo, has ordered an investigation into allegations that banks are deliberately delaying payment to disengaged workers of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
The delays have hit the last batch of disengaged workers most—a situation Nebo called “intolerable.”
The power ministry complained in a statement that Nebo was informed that “a payment instruction given on Dec 10 to a particular commercial bank had not yet been transferred to the account of the Accountant-General of the Federation.”
The payment notice is already 13 days delayed.
Nebo said government would not tolerate a situation where the process of paying monies it has already released was “causing frustration among workers” and “embarrassing the federal government.”
He spoke during talks with labour minister, new owners of PHCN successor companies and stakeholders in power sector.
