The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Rogers Nicholas yesterday set up a four-man committee to investigate the bloody attempt by Boko Haram to invade Maiduguri on Easter Sunday.
Gen Nicholas said during a press conference in Maiduguri yesterday that the committee became necessary as information from findings would help prevent a reoccurrence.
“The committee has been inaugurated by the Theatre Command to unravel what happened and to ensure that such does not repeat itself,” Nicholas said.
The Theatre Commander who lamented that the casualty figures following the attacks in the outskirts of Maiduguri that Easter day might have been higher safe for the quick intervention of his troops who brought the situation under control, added that the committee had only three days to submit its report.
“The Chairman of the committee is Brig. General Henry Wesley. The members are Col. Uwen Bassy and Lt. Col Mohammed, with Captain Mairuwa as secretary,” Nicolas said.
It would be recalled that at least 25 civilians and one soldier were killed while over 80 people suffered injuries when Boko Haram insurgents invaded Bille Shuwa, Bille Kura and Alikaranti villages on April 1 in what was said to be a failed attempt by the insurgents to enter Maiduguri township.
