Respected Russia ex-coach Boris Ignatyev has shared his thoughts on the performance of Aaron Samuel in Amkar Perm’s 2-1 win over Lokomotiv Moscow in which he scored a brace.

Ignatyev noted that there was nothing special about the two goals scored by the CSKA Moscow loanee, adding that he’s doing everything possible to make Nigeria’s squad for the 2018 World Cup.

“I did not see anything extraordinary. It’s not worth praising Olanare for a penalty. The second ball is a mistake of the Lokomotiv defense,” Ignatyev said to Sport Express Russia.

“CSKA conduct good training, and they saw his best games. I do not think that today he showed himself at a high level.”

Asked if Samuel is targeting a spot in Nigeria’s World Cup squad, Ignatyev answered: “Of course, he’s improving from game to game and tried today, but I would not give him any special honors.”

Ignatyev was head coach of the Russia national team 1996-1998 and was in the dugout when USSR won the U19 Euros in 1988.
