Out of the compounds were new anti-malaria derivatives that could be introduced into the country’s pharmaceutical industry.
Confirming the development to Daily Trust, Obaleye, who is the former Dean, Faculty of Science of the university, said the new compounds have been tested on animals and microbes and found to be very successful, adding that the next stage is to try them on humans.
He stressed that his new dis-coveries are of higher value than existing derivatives, adding that after patenting, available com-pounds can be mass produced for pharmaceutical companies for further processing into anti-malaria drugs.
According to him, the new compounds would require the imprimatur of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration Control (NAFDAC) to carry out the testing on humans.
