The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah has urged Nigerians to continue praying for Leah who was still in the hand of Boko Haram following her abduction by members of the sect at a secondary school in Daptchi, Yobe state.
The Bishop was however, optimistic that her incarceration was simply a matter of time as God would intervene in His miraculous way soon.
Speaking during the Priestly Vows Renewal at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Sokoto, he said, denying her freedom by Boko Haram for refusing to denounce her faith was simply but a manifestation of the fact that the constitution was not supreme in the eyes of some.
According to him, freedom of worship is enshrined in the constitution." However, some are in the habit of compelling people to convert to their own religion or face death.”
Bishop Kukah who said he wants everybody to know him as a priest of the Catholic Church because of his conviction, added that, priesthood is a life of sacrifice not money-making decision.
"I want everybody to know me as a Priest of the Catholic Church. If I wanted to make money, I would not have joined priesthood. Hence, I don’t become a Priest to make money but to pastor people to know and serve God in sincerity,” he stated.
Kukah noted: “Priests are from amongst humans but chosen by God to offer sacrifices for men. Hence, no priest can lay claim to why he was favoured to become a worker in the vineyard of God. Our responsibility as priest is to see with divine eyes.”
He added: “A priest places himself in a position whereby family considerations do not obstruct his decision to serve God.”
