Safiya Bello Adamu: One year after

Allah (SWT) has said in the noble Qur’an “And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, who when disaster strikes them, say ‘Indeed we belong to Allah and indeed to Him we will return.’ Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the (rightly) guided”. (Qur’an 2:155-157)

In another verse, Allah (SWT) has said “every soul will taste death. And we test you with evil and with good as trial and to us you will be returned” (Qur’an 21:35)

In a Hadith reported by Abu Yahya Suhaib bin Sinan (R.A): the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “How wonderful is the case of a believer; there is good for him in everything and this applies only to a believer. If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is better for him”. (MUSLIM)

In another Hadith reported by Abu Hurairah (RA), the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Allah, the exalted, says: I have no reward other than jannah for a believing slave of mine who remains patient for my sake when I take away his beloved one from among the inhabitants of the world”. (Al-Bukhari).

Abu Sa’id  and Abu Hurairah (R.A) also reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Never a believer is stricken with a discomfort, an illness, an anxiety, a grief or mental worry or even the pricking of a thorn, but Allah will expiate his sins on account of his patience”. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

To my brothers and sisters, I know that no one would like to lose a dear one, but if it so happens we should be patient, and accept it as the will of the Almighty Allah (SWT).

We should try as much as possible to do things that will benefit our dear ones after their death, because according to a Hadith reported by Abu Hurairah (RA), the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “when a human being dies, all of his deeds are terminated except for three types: an ongoing sadaqah, a knowledge (of Islam) from which others benefit, and a righteous child who makes du’a for him.” (Muslim) May we be able to continue to pray for them.

Mama, may Allah forgive your short comings, may He fill your grave with the light of all the good things you have done, may He reunite us all in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.
