A 70-year-old man, Francis Ezomo, and his two sons, Nosa, 26 and Festus, 29, have been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old girl who is a relation of Mr Francis’ wife.
It was gathered that the suspects who abused the minor at Oliha quarters in Oredo Local Government were handed over to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Johnson Kokumo, by the state government.
Addressing journalists after the suspects were handed over, the Acting Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, said the case was reported to her office by the headmistress of the minor.
“The issue came to limelight when the headmistress of the minor’s school noticed a change of behaviour and decided to ask her what the problem was. The girl narrated her ordeal to the headmistress who then informed the Education Secretary of the local government where the alleged crime took place. We then swung into action and got the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development involved,” Dr Oviawe said.
The commissioner of police assured that the suspects will be investigated and charge the case to court.
