14 die of Cholera, Lassa fever

Outbreaks of cholera and Lassa fever in Bauchi State have claimed the lives of 14 people.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Zuwaira Hassan disclosed this in Bauchi yesterday while briefing Journalists on the situation of both outbreaks.

She said nine died from cholera while Lassa fever claimed five lives.

According to the commissioner, 324 cases of cholera were recorded and 26 patients are on admission at the Isolation Ward of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi.

Dr Zuwaira said a female student of College of Education, Kangere was among the victims of the cholera outbreak.

The commissioner further informed that five local government areas which include Bauchi, Toro, Darazo, Tafawa Balewa and Ganjuwa were affected by the cholera outbreak.
